Seasons of Love
from the 1996 Broadway musical- RENT
Creator and composer: Jonathan Larson

COMPANY
525,600 minutes, 525,000 moments so dear.
525,600 minutes - how do you measure, measure a year?
In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee.
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife.
In 525,600 minutes - how do you measure a year in the life?
How about love? How about love? How about love?
Measure in love.
Seasons of
love.

SOLOIST 1
525,600 minutes! 525,000 journeys to plan.
525,600 minutes - how can you measure
the life of a woman or man?

SOLOIST 2
In truths that she learned, or in times that he cried.
In bridges he burned, or
the way that she died.

COMPANY
It’s time now to sing out, tho the story never ends
let's celebrate remember a year in the life of friends.
Remember the love! Remember the love! Remember the love!
Measure in love.
Seasons of love!
Seasons of love.

sunshine request

rain 018It rained all day long on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. During the day, the lab was like a giant four degrees coldroom and the nights were so cold that the home floor tiles felt refrigerated. As much as I love rain, this week has been a rainy overkill. Monsoon or not, we need sunshine Care Bear haha...

Today, the sun finally burst through bright and strong, albeit the skies were still draped in drabby shades of grey. Here's hoping for a sun-soaked Friday with lovely blue skies, such as this!

because i miss you

I got irked looking at someone else's Christmas tree today. Why would a person who does not celebrate Christmas put up a fancy Christmas tree is beyond me. It's not even Advent yet! Then I remembered that a Christmas tree has nothing to do with the birth of Christ.

Thus I told myself to shut up. Sigh.

This is the third year in a row that Supra, Sugeo and I did not get to put up the Christmas tree at home together. Like little elves, we'd stay up all night tidying the house and putting up all the decor after Mama and Atah have gone to bed. In between all the tidying and decorating, we'd be having home-cooked maggi goreng and singing off-key renditions of Christmas carols. I've always wondered what were Mama and Atah's thoughts waking up to a cosy Christmas-y house the morning after and three snoozing chikoras sprawled on the carpet...

rendang ayam cravings

rendang ayam

Been craving for rendang ayam ever since Ramadhan started. So woke up early and went to the pasar with Yvonne for the ingredients. My first time cooking it on my own without Mama's supervision and am glad it turned out drool-worthy (haha, so perasan) despite only remembering to add in the blended garlic halfway through and substituting asam keping with lime juice!

Ingredients for Mama's rendang ayam: garlic, small onions, lengkuas, ginger, kunyit, daun kunyit, serai, asam keping, fresh and dried red chillies, santan and kerisik kelapa, daun limau purut, water, salt and of course, chicken.

Now, if only I can get my hands on some lemang or ketupat...

manna from above

There was a flash of lightning, illuminating the room.
A lull of three seconds and then the crescendo of thunder.
And it poured, gloriously...

At last, the heaviness is no more.
I snuggled into bed, closed my eyes and took the sandman's hands.
"I've waited for so long," I whispered.
"You just sang the wrong song, that's all..."

Vater unser im Himmel,
Geheiligt werde dein Name.
Dein Reich komme.

Amen.

silly nocturnal thoughts

Sometimes I wish my mind had an ON and OFF switch.
If it did, and I turned if off, how would I turn it back on again?
Perhaps a switch with a timer would be good.

on the second day of Raya...

Korean/Japanese looking Chinese girl all decked in brown, green and gold baju kedah, with mehndi on her hands and a cross on her neck, spewing a rojak of English, Malay, and Mandarin as she spoke with her friends. Oh, and the oh-so-salah looking pair of black OP flip-flops.

I think I must have looked real weird today. Hee...
